The Local Area

Fife is an extraordinarily diverse part of Scotland, famed as the home of golf it has 46 golf courses within its boundaries, in addition there are magnificent beaches, picturesque fishing villages, history both ancient and modern and wildlife galore. More than enough to keep anybody busy during a stay.

Upper and Lower Largo

The seaside village of Lower Largo has two excellent pubs and a shop as well as huge expanses of sandy beaches interspersed with fascinating rock pools. Village history is dominated by Alexander Selkirk; the real Robinson Crusoe and there is a statue marking his birthplace. The Fife Coastal Path passes through the village.

Upper Largo has a Hotel/Pub serving good food and a shop. There is a rich history in the village centred around Largo House and the 14th Century church. The village is well served by public transport links with direct bus routes to Glasgow, Edinburgh and St Andrews.

Upper and Lower Largo are dominated by the volcanic plug Largo Law which rises steeply to 290m behind the villages.

St Andrews and Surroundings

The ancient city of St Andrews is only 10 miles away; famed as the home of golf with 7 golf courses including the “Old Course”, which hosts the Open Golf Championship every 5 years, it is also steeped in history being the home of St Andrews University, the third oldest university in the English speaking world, and St Andrews Cathedral, now a ruin but once the greatest Cathedral in Scotland.

The fishing villages of Crail, Anstruther and Pitenweem are a must see when in the area and there are numerous National Trust properties, outdoor activities and attractions in the area to keep everyone happy.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is only 1 hour away and as Scotlands Capital city is a great day out for all, highlights are the Castle, the Royal Mile and Holyrood, its many museums and galleries as well as the extensive shopping opportunities. Finally don't forget the famous Edinburgh Festival which runs throughout August.
